O’Steen’s $$ (Cash only)
A favorite for local’s since opening day. Florida’s best fried shrimp is found right here. Folks drive for hours just to come for the fried shrimp. Remember, O’Steen’s is a cash only establishment, so leave the credit card in your wallet. Be sure to sit down and order a cup/bowl of their Minorcan Clam Chowder. This tomato-based chowder is just slightly spicy, courtesy of the locally grown data pepper. Very flavorful.
All of their seafood offerings (fish, oysters, scallops) are really tasty. And most of their sides are really good too. They always have the best tomatoes in town, so if a side of sliced tomatoes is your thing…you have come to the right place. Their desserts are terrific too. Reservations are not taken. Go to the window and put your name on the list, you’ll eventually get in there. Closed on Sunday & Monday.
Located in the heart of the Old City, the Columbia would be one of my ‘musts’ when visiting St. Augustine. We are blessed with the most beautiful of their seven Sunshine State locations. The Columbia is another ideal couples/family celebration location! Make a reservation!!
Start your dining experience by ordering the “1905 Salad” and a glass/pitcher of Sangria to accompany the complimentary baked Cuban bread brought to your table upon arrival. I also order the Ybor City Deviled Crab Croquettes, as an appetizer. Outstanding! Florida’s Best Cuban Sandwich? Perhaps! You can be the judge. It’s a little different from some of the others. Order the El Combo de Cuba for a true sampling of their menu options. I also enjoy their seafood and steak options. One of my usual go-to’s is the Red Snapper Adelina.
Michael’s $$$$
Located In the heart of the Old City, Michael’s has the best steak that I have eaten in St. Augustine. They also have outstanding pork chops and seafood. Several of the sides are a la carte but are large enough to share. They also feature wine pairings with your dinner. Michael’s is a cozy couples/family celebration destination! It is a smaller restaurant so be sure to make reservations for your special day!
