Twenty years or so ago, my buddy and I decided to go take a few pictures from the St. Augustine Lighthouse late one afternoon. We were in town looking at a business opportunity and were about to drive back to our homes. We thought this would be a cool thing to do before getting on the road.
We were standing on the first level when an employee came in and said that they were getting ready to close. She asked us to begin making our way out.
I told her that there were some people above us. She gave me a peculiar look and said that there was no one else in here. I told her that there were people above us because I heard two little girls talking. She replied, saying that she didn’t think so, but let’s go have a look. We all walked up to the very top of the lighthouse, went outside and walked around before coming back to the door on the top level. I looked at my buddy, and my buddy looked at me.
I told the lady that I not only heard voices, but that I saw two very small lights. They were like lights on someone’s camera or cell phone that was hanging over the edge of the second level. One of the lights was orange and the other was white.
The employee asked me what I had heard and I told her that there were two little girls talking, and I assumed that they were with an adult.
The employee laughed and said you may have just been pranked by a couple of ghosts. She then told us the story about three little girls that tragically died at the lighthouse while their fathers were working.
I asked her if they see or hear ghost at the lighthouse. She told me that some people do. She said that the man who usually closes up at night walks to the top of the lighthouse ,making sure no people are still there while singing or humming the Irish song, “Oh, Danny Boy” and the ghosts really respond to that song.
